Reverend Bill Freeman into our classroom. Reverend Freeman married 58 same sex couples in Muskegon on Saturday March 23. He spoke with us intimately about last Saturday, about those couples whom he joined together, he talked of his calling to the ministry, his stay in jail, and his life’s work to fight non-violently for peace and justice. The setting and exchange was soft. Bill perched on a chair in front of the room. He didn’t preach about religion or politics. He shied away from no question. And he opened up his heart to all; a couple times it got a little emotional. He stayed overtime and talked with two classes. We all laughed a lot Continue reading

Close Up Spaghetti Dinner – Well Done Guys!
Well, we did it! I didn’t think that it could be done…but you all did such a nice job. You worked hard. You had a good time. No whining; just working. I’m impressed…
Make sure to thank everybody who made it happen…starting with the cooks! Come on – thank em every day until we go…and then buy em a DC Kitchen T-shirt for providing us the kitchen experience. And of course Mr. Lohman for unleashing the entire girls’ soccer team. Jennie Craine and Bre Ferguson and Christina Springsdorf were a great help! I know I saw Mr. Green and Mrs Baijrano and Coach Harger and Mrs. Arch and Mrs Lutrull and Mr. Lohman and Mr. Addicator and Mrs. Beets scarfing spaghetti. Thank all your friends who bought tickets and all the teachers who bought em, even though they couldn’t make it. And of course we must recognize the relentless efforts of Hunters’ grandma who got the ball rolling. And to Kelly’s mom – thanks for your kind donation. Cole’s bakery donated all the crazy good garlic bread and Jarrod Shankel at E & A provided sauce and spaghetti. And Hunter Giles even made it to the festivities…Thanks to all! Continue reading

PODCASTS (Economics 2.2) – Free Market & Centrally Planned Economies
In an effort to improve understanding of key terms in Economics I’ll post MP3 podcasts of “terms to study” regularly throughout the semester. These terms will serve as a core for unit comprehension and exams. Each is also listed in the classroom on the front whiteboard and will be targeted for class discussion. When I place a numeral that corresponds to a particular class hour next to the term on the front board, I will assume that all students in that particular class hour understands the term. Any student can veto my decision by simply raising their hand and asking for a clarification. We will continue to work through the definition until that student is comfortable with the term. However, once the class hour numeral is on the board, quizzes will be drawn from the corresponding term. All quizzes are two terms 10 point essay answers (twenty point total) and are based on a working understanding of the word; that means you’ll be answering in essay format.
Quizzes will be often and unannounced. So it is important for you to review your notes and the below podcasts regularly throughout the semester. Terms will also serve as a basis for Unit Tests and the Final Exam. Consequently a good way to review would be to listen to the podcasts.
Terms below in blue have been podcasted. Merely go to the term and you will find the podcast in MP3 format.
- Market
- specialization
- circular flow chart
- household & firm
- factor market
- product market
- Adam Smith – Wealth of Nations
- Laissez Faire
- Invisible Hand
