Decisions, Decisions, Decisions…

For all things college – go to our website – building a better world.net.  Please go here for extra credit assignment in discussing this material with mom and dad.

When you are talking about college and careers and quality of life issues – there’s a lot of things to consider.  In Economics we are deep into a study of the cost of college.  If that doesn’t shake you just a bit, then you’re either sound asleep  or a very very rich high school student; however I see no BMW’s in the Oakridge High School student parking lot.  In Senior Current Issues – we are off on college scholarship searches – we’ve learned there’s a lot of competition  – even with the cool blogs.

Meanwhile,  challenges abound.   You’ve got so many options  – colleges 4 year and 2 year, apprenticeships, military, school costs, choice of major, career direction,  scholarships, grants and loans…it’s a lot to take on.  But oh so necessary.

Hopefully the information below will help you to sort things out

ECON – Exam Honor Roll

Congratulations to the following students who earned an “A” on last weeks Economics Common Unknown-3Assessment.  Well done guys…keep accumulating that Human Capitol…and twenty five years from now you’ll have more than just your waitressing tips to pull out of the piggy bank to try and dent the $235,000 cost to send little junior off to Michigan State University for four years, in order that he achieve a degree in some major that will pay him $35,000 a year when he gets out of college…at least you’re covering half the battle.  Now its on to pitchforks and torches and political representatives who do not consider affordable higher education a basic human right in the richest country on the face of the planet in the history of the world.

Podcasts 1.1 & 1.2 – Intro to Economics

In an effort to improve understanding of key terms I’ll be posting MP3 podcasts of “terms to study” regularly Unknown-2throughout the semester.  These terms will serve as a core for unit comprehension and exams.  Each is also listed in the classroom on the front whiteboard and will be targeted for class discussion.  When I place a numeral that corresponds to a particular class hour next to the term on the front board, I will assume that all students in that particular class hour understands the term.  Any student can veto my decision by a simple veto.   We will continue to work through the definition until that student is comfortable with the term.  However, one the class hour numeral is on the board, quizzes will be drawn from the corresponding term.   All quizzes are two terms 10 point essay answers (twenty point total) and are based on a working understanding of the word; that means you’ll be answering in essay format.  I am also posting audio podcasts of many of them below.  Each podcast is two to five minutes in length.

Quizzes will be often and unannounced.  So it is important for you to review your notes and the below podcasts regularly throughout the semester.  Terms will also serve as a basis for Common Assessments.  Consequently a good way to review for the Common Assessments would be to listen to the podcasts.

Terms in blue have been podcasted. Merely go to the term and you will find the podcast in MP3 format.

Reflection Explanations – Assignment Part II

Assignment due posted to Google Docs by 11:59 PM Friday October 18.  Worth fifty points.

You all now have some kind of Reflections Journal book.  We will use these books the remainder of the school year  Mr. wood for specific in class written assignments.  We will begin that process in the Second Marking Period.  But first – we will do one more assignment (50 points) in regard to your creation.

For the front I asked you to create a composite of your life.  Many of you did that with photos.  Others used drawings and quotes.   Now I need for you to introduce me to that production.   To the right you’ll see reproduction  of my Reflection book.  Below, you’ll notice that I’ve drawn an outline of it as well.  On the outline, I’ve numbered (and titled) each of the particular featured photos/drawings on that Reflection book.  I want you to do the same – whether you have two or twenty-two photos.  If you have a quote box it or write it and count it as an item.
